What can you do for us? Simply put, we will create a website that helps you meet your business goals. Many websites fail because they are designed without acknowledging that a website is a tool to be used to meet goals, that it is greater than the sum of its parts. We approach web design beyond the simple act of bolting together some images and text; your business goals are the foundation on which the site is built.
What are your technical capabilities? Our bread and butter are standards compliant CSS/HTML, with PHP and MySQL providing content administration and interactive features. We also draw on Flash and Javascript to enhance design and usability.
You've mentioned usability twice in as many questions. What does that mean for a website? Designing for usability means ensuring that the website is easy to navigate, its features are easy to use, and its administration is simple. All of us have encountered websites or programs where we intuitively know where something should be or how something should work...yet it doesn't. Designing for usability means predicting how people will expect the system to work and meeting those expectations, instead of whipping up a quick solution that only a programmer would understand.
How much is this going to cost? It depends entirely on what you need in a website. Send us an email with what you know you want, what you think you want, and most definately, what you thought was impossible, because we like to give out pleasant surprises. Links to sites that you feel have similar design or functionality are also helpful. If you are located in Toronto, we would be happy to meet with you to discuss what is possible.
Please, I'm a numbers person, can you give me a number? A basic website will cost around $800.00. A website on this budget would include a single template design, meaning that there is only one layout used throughout the website, with no unique pages. A basic content administration system will allow you to edit the text on your website.
I've received quotes from offshore companies that are half that! No one knows exactly what day money was invented, but we know that the day after, someone was heard saying "Well, you do get what you pay for". Outsourcing your website to the offshore industry is a big gamble. Many businesses have been left high and dry with websites that do not work; the cost of fixing the website will usually put the project well over budget. We have personally worked with clients where the eventual cost of repairs has exceeded what we would have charged to write the website from scratch.
